Apocalypse Weekend is also much more combat-oriented than the original Postal 2, and unlike Postal 2 it is virtually impossible to complete the game without killing, as several of the game's later missions involve the Postal Dude running through narrow corridors while being bombarded by wave after wave of hostile machine-gun-wielding attackers.ġ0 new "story-based" missions taking place across 20 new maps over the course of 2 days (Saturday and Sunday), culminating in a climactic battle for the very fate of humanity (aka an oddly out-of-place boss battle that even the game admits was apparently thrown in just for the heck of it).ģ new melee weapons: A machete, a sledgehammer, and a scythe, all of which are capable of killing enemies in a single hit and even of severing limbs and cutting enemies in half. Unlike the original Postal 2, which was a free-roaming, exploration-based game similar to the Grand Theft Auto series, Apocalypse Weekend is a linear, mission-based game that takes the player from one pre-set level to the next. War on Terror? Has Postal Dude's brain trauma given him the ability to see the hidden machinations of some bovine Ultimate Evil attempting to bring about the very End of the World? I have yet to play Paradise Lost, but I hope it's better than the frustrating expansion that is Apocalypse Weekend.Apocalypse Weekend begins on the Saturday following the climactic Apocalypse at the end of Postal 2. Welp, that's a shame, as the game really doesn't give you any guidance, and your forced to kill enemies and keep walking through the base, only to find what you need, and walk ALL THE WAY BACK! The one and only premiere post-apocalyptic fully-immersive festival Wasteland Weekend returns for 5 days of madness and mayhem in the Mojave Desert, September 28th-October 2nd, 2022. Rather than finding unique ways to accomplish your goal, the game throws you into an area with few save points, a shit ton of enemies, all that lead up to practically nothing.Ī good example of this is the Military Base, where the Postal Dude (character's actual name) was imprisoned as an enemy militant after being captured by the military at the Al-Qaeda base (where you had to kill tons of terrorists for NOTHING). Although you're met with similar tasks like in the original Monday-Friday cycle, Apocalypse Weekend is MUCH different. I'm not gonna go into depth with this, because that's the thing, THERE IS NO FUCKING DEPTH! Saturday and Sunday are easily the worst days of the Postal Week. That is, until I got to Saturday and Sunday, aka Apocalypse Weekend, which take place directly after the events of Postal 2's original Monday through Friday story. So do all music players running on a device not really designed to produce audiophile-quality music play back the same? There are probably small differences, but you probably couldn't tell the difference between the audio fed into the phone from a turntable playing brand new vinyl and a good digital recording of the same record no matter which app you used. Add to that the fact that the sampling rate on playback is probably no more than 96KHz, and you have even less quality. Plugging these numbers into formula reveals these probabilities: Level (Only three touching squares for a corner click, and five touching squares for an edge click).Ĭlassic Minesweeper has three default difficulty settings: Beginner, Intermediate and Expert. Similarly, if we click on a corner or edge we can see that the calculations are similar, but this time there are less touching squares. The probability that a hole is created when a click is made in the middle of the board is therefore: Mathematically, we need to AND all these probabilities together, which we do by multiplying them. We can carry this on around all eight touching squares. The probability that the second touching cell is an empty cell is therefore: ( N - M - 2) / ( N - 2) It's not hard to see that the denominator changes to N - 2 (There are now two less unidentified squares on the grid), and the numerator changes to N - M - 2 (There are two less possible empty spaces). If the center cell is empty, and the first touching cell is empty, then the probability that the second touching square will also empty can be calculated. The probability that the first touching cell is also an empty cell is therefore: ( N - M - 1) / ( N - 1) (Where M is the total number of mines in the puzzle.) If there are N squares in the grid, then, because we've already exposed one cell, there are N - 1 squares left, and the number of empty squares (not mines) is N - M - 1 We now need to calculate the probability that the first touching square is also an empty space. We already know that the first click square is going to be an empty space (our freebie). To create an exposed blob, we need all the squares around the square we click to also be empty spaces. Let’s do the math … Probability of a blank space Using the criteria that we want the first click to be a click that Maximizes the chances that we click on a square entirely surrounded by other blank spaces, where is the best place to click? A Corner, an Edge, or a Middle square? Where is the best place for your first click? No matter how ridiculously dense the board, if your first click would have landed you on a bomb, the program swaps this bomb with a blank space. Windows Minesweeper always allows makes your first click safe. If you click on a square that is entirely surrounded by safe areas, then minesweeper automatically ‘clicks’ on these areas and the region expands. When starting a game, ideally, what you’d like to see happen is to have a nice large blob open up so that you can walk around the edge, just like in the image below. ![]() This requires opening up the board as fast as possible. When you lose a coin flip, the result is that you’re usually very eager to start a new game and get invested into the next game very quickly. There’s no way to find any additional information to disambiguate. For example, in the image to the right, either of the top two squares could be a mine. It’s not hard to expose a situation where it is a coin toss as to the exact location of a mine. Minesweeper is a great little game and the only annoying part is that, sometimes, you have to guess in order to continue. I’m sure everyone has wasted a few hours playing Minesweeper on earlier version of Windows. ![]() ![]() You want it to always explain it and help them learn - that’s an example of the kind of system you should be able to build ,” Brockman said. “If you’re building an AI-powered tutor, you never want the tutor to just give an answer to the student. Kevin Dotson (born March 4, 1973) was born in Omaha, Nebraska and spent his formative years in Florida. He learned to play guitar at age five, and later learned to play bass, drums, and piano. When Dotson was twenty-one, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. By mid-1995, he formed the punk-pop band Size 14 (named after his shoe size). This band released an well-received album on Volcano Records in 1997. When the band broke up in 1998, Dotson began his solo career. He released his first solo album, “Your Favorite Record”, in August 1999. The album was recorded in Dotson’s bedroom recording studio and was held in high regard by most critics. His second album, “Let Yourself Be Happy” (2001), was generally not received as favorably as his first album, but received mostly favorable reviews. Dotson turned to production, producing such artists as Paul Gilbert, Bowling for Soup and Charlatans U.K. In October 2006, he released his third album, “Triangle”. He followed it up with two compilation albums: “Attractive Singles” (2008), which combined previously released tracks with some new ones and “Reheat and Serve” (2008), which contains twelve previously unreleased tracks. His next release was “A Girl That I Like”, a digital single released in March 2011. “A Girl That I Like” delivers what we have come to expect from Dotson: a delicately beautiful melody, accompanied by guileless lyrics: “There’s a girl that I like/ And she’s coming by at 12/Until then I’ll be countin’ down the time/And we’ve kissed a few times/I’m not sure what it means/But ever since, she’s always on my mind”. Dotson claims he wrote the song for a girlfriend, who once texted him, asking, “What are you doing?” He replied “I’m texting with a girl that I like”, and proceeded to use that as the title for a song, which he wrote in about fifteen minutes. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
